This course will train library staff in critical elements of library disaster prevention, planning, and recovery. Participants of the workshop will learn about different types of library disasters and their implications for collections, physical facilities, and human health and safety including water, fire and storm-related disasters. Students will learn how to plan for disasters including assessing and mitigating risks, creating an institutional disaster plan, and organizing a disaster recovery team. Students will learn basic salvage techniques for typical library formats including books and paper, photographs, a/v media, and archival materials. Level: K-12
